AUTOMATIC  DRAWING

So Friday night I went back home to Simi Valley to visit my family. I found it the perfect time to try out this week's art activity with my younger sister, who was "dying" of boredom that night. We put on our face masks (as you can see gunk on our face ) and tried out the activity.

Our first attempt was a bit of a fail. At first we couldn't stop laughing but even yet, the pastel was moving. My sister swore it was I moving the pastel but I felt like I was just following her. After a while we settled and kept with the flow. I started to get excited that it was working, and not only that it was working but it felt soothing. What more could I ask for... sitting in crisscross applesauce, with a face mask on, and pastel and paper. After I would say 5 minutes of laughing, then pulling it together, and then finally relaxing, we decided to stop and look at what we had created since the whole time we tried to keep our eyes off the paper.

Creation #1 - it ended up looking much less interesting than we had anticipate. Doing the exercise for about 5 minutes I thought we would have came up with something grand and interesting like the example Professor Glenn posted online, but our drawing turned out to be small and peculiar, it honestly looks like a little bird to me.

Creation #2 - This one we tried thinking of someone we loved. I thought about my grandma. We took less time to do this one, about 3 minutes, of laughter, concentration, and some more laughing.

Overall, I really enjoyed this activity. It allowed me to bond with my sister, share some laughter, as well as meditation. Although our drawings didn't turn out to be all that cool, I think the process was.
